Glutathione and collagen together: why they belong in the same formula

They are two of the most searched ingredients in beauty supplements, and they are almost always sold as separate jars. Put them in one formula and something rather neat happens, they turn out to be built from the same parts.

What glutathione actually is

Glutathione is a small molecule your body makes for itself. It is a tripeptide, which simply means it is three amino acids joined together: glycine, glutamic acid and cysteine.

Your body produces it continuously, in every cell. It is not exotic and it is not new, it is one of the most studied molecules in human biochemistry, and it has been on supplement labels for years.

Hold on to those first two names, because this is where the two ingredients meet.

Collagen is built from the same amino acids

Collagen is a large structural protein, and it is unusually rich in one amino acid in particular: glycine. Roughly every third building block along a collagen strand is glycine, which is a far higher proportion than most proteins in your body. Glutamic acid is in there too.

So the two amino acids your body uses to build glutathione are two of the same ones it uses to build collagen.

Supply glycine and glutamic acid, and you are feeding both pathways at once. That is not a marketing coincidence, it is just biochemistry.

This is why splitting them across two products has always been slightly odd. A collagen powder and a separate glutathione capsule are, in part, delivering overlapping raw material at twice the price and twice the daily admin.

So can you take them together?

Yes. They are not competing ingredients and there is no reason to space them apart. They are complementary by design, and in Lovu they sit in the same blend precisely because of that overlap.

The Vegan Collagen Booster™ supplies, per serving:

  • L-Glutathione, 200 mg
  • Glycine, 150 mg, shared between both
  • Glutamic acid, 150 mg, shared between both

One serving, two gummies, both pathways. No second jar, no second reminder, no second price.

The co-factor that makes it work

Amino acids on their own are raw material. To actually build collagen from them, your body needs vitamin C, and that is where the strongest evidence in this entire category sits.

Vitamin C contributes to collagen formation for the function of your skin. That is regulator-approved wording, not a marketing line, and it is the reason a formula without vitamin C is incomplete no matter how impressive the amino acid doses look.

Lovu carries 20 mg of vitamin C alongside the blend. Turn over any glutathione or collagen product you are considering and check whether it does the same. A great many do not.

Why this combination suits the climate here

Life in the UAE means sun, heat, dust and long hours under air conditioning. Those conditions put cells under oxidative stress, and two of the ingredients in this formula carry approved claims that speak directly to it:

  • Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Lovu carries 45 mg.
  • Vitamin C contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, the same vitamin doing double duty alongside its collagen role.

Add vitamin D at 50 mcg, which matters more here than almost anywhere given how much of the day is spent indoors, and the formula starts to look less like a beauty product and more like something designed for this specific place.

What one serving gives you

  • L-Glutathione 200 mg, in the Vegan Collagen Booster™ blend
  • Glycine 150 mg + Glutamic acid 150 mg, shared building blocks
  • Vitamin C 20 mg, contributes to collagen formation for the function of your skin
  • Vitamin E 45 mg, contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress
  • Biotin 1,000 mcg, contributes to the maintenance of your hair
  • Zinc 3 mg, contributes to the maintenance of your hair, skin and nails
  • Vitamin D 50 mcg, 250% DV, plant-derived

Fourteen actives in two gummies, every amount printed on the jar. No added sugar, strawberry flavour, set with pectin rather than gelatin.

What to check before you buy either one

  • Is the glutathione dose printed? If it sits inside a blend with no number beside it, you cannot know what you are getting. Ours is 200 mg, stated.
  • Is there vitamin C in the jar? Without it the collagen side of the equation is incomplete.
  • Are you buying the same amino acids twice? Two separate products often overlap more than people realise.
  • Will you take it daily? Two capsules plus a powder is three things to remember. Two gummies is one.

How long to give it

Nails tend to show first, around weeks four to six, because they grow out fastest. Hair is closer to week eight. Skin is the slowest, usually somewhere between weeks eight and twelve.

One jar is 30 servings, so plan for two or three. Individual results vary.

Two practical notes

Xylitol is completely safe for people and toxic to dogs, so keep the jar out of reach of pets. And if you have a blood test coming up, mention the biotin, because high-dose biotin can interfere with some laboratory tests.

The short version

Glutathione and collagen are not rivals, and they are not really two separate purchases either. They share two of their three core amino acids, they benefit from the same co-factor, and they fit comfortably in one serving.

Which is why we built them that way rather than selling you two jars.

The full formula is on Science and Research. If you are comparing plant-based against marine collagen, that is here, and the vitamin D story for this climate is here.

Both, in one serving.

Glutathione Collagen Glow, 60 gummies, 30 servings, every dose printed on the label.
